Patterning the Skirt

Today I started patterning the first panel of the skirt section of my dress for my final major project.

The design involves having four panels on the front and four on the back of the dress, with one of these covered in a corsage manufactured out of felt, fabric and beads.

When making the skirt pattern I had to use the slash and spread method to increase the volume in the lower part of the skirt panels.

I will manufacture the dress as a toile and then re-assess if the skirt needs more volume.  I will adapt the patterns if necessary, once I have made the decision.  I want the dress to have a full skirt, but I want it to be able to be worn as either a day dress, or, with the corsage, a special occasion dress.

I am excited about creating this final garment and look forward to seeing it on the catwalk.

Thanks for reading!
